I've always been interested in in trying to photograph fairly extreme things in a calm and almost quiet way, and whilst previously I've shot stunt people learning how to set themselves on fire and also cliff divers as well as ski jumpers, this time around I wanted to make something warmer (visually). I wanted to portray warmth but not take away from the fact that racing is potentially dangerous, so some of the portraits are inside the cars, with the drivers strapped into their safety gear. To contrast the calmness in some of the images I've photographed details of damage to the cars.

 

The shoot was made at the Mendips Raceway in Somerset.
